Tech companies have argued that such mandates could stifle innovation, as they have been investing in proprietary charging technology to enhance speed and safety. Supporters, however, point to the successful implementation of similar standards in other global markets, which have seen a clear reduction in redundant electronic waste.
A public comment period on the proposal has been opened, and the government is holding meetings with industry representatives to discuss the feasibility of a phased transition. A decision is expected within the next six months.
